Scope of Work

For this project the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management wanted to enhance their facility with state-of-the-art features that would be versatile and capable of accommodating a wide variety of functions.  All the AV systems installed needed to be centrally managed via a master Control Room, be inter-compatible and scalable with full media capture and streaming, and be accessible throughout the entire network.  The AV systems also needed to be centrally fed (where possible) and fully HDCP compliant.  In addition the visual displays had to be sized appropriately to provide clarity for the intended use and room size and to minimize viewing fatigue. 

Audio reproduction had to allow for unstrained listening and interactive participation, suited for the intended programming and room.  All of the technology had to be designed with ease of use in mind.  It was also required that the user control over the system devices was designed to be logical and easy to understand. 

The recording infrastructure was a major component of these systems and involved a network of cameras and microphones in numerous classrooms and the event space and had to be made accessible to students and staff on the University’s own servers for download at any later time.  The entire system was built on a fibre optic backbone and all of the rooms are monitored from a central control room, which doubles as a help desk, and also monitors all of the various audio, video, and source signals for recording.

To minimize set-up or preparation time, the majority of system elements were built-in to each room’s infrastructure. Systems in purpose-built rooms can facilitate prepared and ad-hoc presentations among local participants, and, where required, future remote or distant groups.  The overall system allows remote manageability and control of in-room devices via the Control Room.  The technologies had to be consistent and standard across locations and phases of the project.  The systems were designed so that in case of emergency the equipment from one room could be used as a direct replacement for the equipment in another. 

 The Event Space had to be able to accommodate a variety of different functions and types of groups including dignitaries, CEO’s, politicians, press conferences and gatherings of up to 400 people.  This dividable multi-purpose room is capable of supporting two simultaneous events when the room is divided.  The Event Space has two mix positions - the first is in the upper control room on the 3rd floor, which overlooks the space is located at the south end of the room. The second position is on the floor on the north-east side of the room. This position can be used in full open mode or divided mode.

This project was completed on time and on budget.
